Theory & Context
Why This Shape Works
The E Melodic Minor scale uses E, F♯, G, A, B, C♯, D♯ and the formula 1 2 b3 4 5 6 7. In Double Drop D tuning, the open strings run D B G D A D from highest to lowest, so use this map rather than a Standard-tuning shape. Use the map to locate each E root, then select a five-fret position to see its tablature. The chord suggestions use notes from this scale.
Melodic Minor sounds minor but polished, modern and flexible. Try it for fusion leads, altered harmony and sophisticated modal colour. Double Drop D lowers both E strings to D and leaves the middle four strings unchanged. The two outer strings now share the same note name.
Contrast the b3 with the natural 6th and 7th for the real melodic minor identity. In Double Drop D, check both outer strings, since their notes differ from Standard tuning.
